Following an investigation led by Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, the prosecution alleged that he had profited to the tune of £236,000.

It amazes me that it took bet365 40 accounts to catch him.

If the guy was signing up in person photo ID should have stopped him, if he was signing up online the IP address should have stopped him. Maybe they were freerolling him in case he lost, and if he won they would prosecute.

LOL. 5 years in prison for breaking the terms of bet365 and getting multiple sign up bonuses.

The power this world is handing to casinos which don't produce anything of value is pure insanity. Paying off the right politicans/lawmakers is all it takes.....

Bet365 also sucks. I remember in college asking them multiple times to have higher than $200 heads up sit and gos. Would never do it...

Then ended up with 5k sit and gos when everyone started getting good and I got passed by in talent at the game :(

Then they obviously stopped accepting USA players.

The article said he profited 236k pounds. If he ran that up with legit betting then that's harsh, but if he ran it up all on bonuses then I can understand sentencing him the same as if he stole 236k pounds in a robbery.

Terms and conditions aren't laws.

Like a casino demanding id before paying you out. Legally they have to pay you out even without ID if it's below the threshold of reporting for taxes.

This is just an example of paying off the right people.

When Caesars had the deposit 5k get a 5k bonus(when they first started coming into different states.

I had my friends sign up in illnois and paid them $700 and I funded the account and played. They going to put me in jail now? Haha

This is insane.

"he had opened more than 1,000 accounts in the names of others by the time his house was searched by police in February 2019."

I could see if this was an identity theft case---but that isn't mentioned at all.

They gave him 5 years for breaking the terms of bet365. LOL

I remember they banned my chat for verbal abuse and never returned it because I had broke their terms and conditions multiple times over this...

Wonder if I am next

Agreed

Laughable that authorities stand behind & go out of their way to support a sports book, but don't do sh!t when the book cheats customers out of money by not paying when they win big

How many times have we seen someone win a jackpot in the casino and never get paid

A lot

Exactly!

Could you imagine going to the police over that---they would laugh in ur face.

Blockfi/Gemini Earned stole 327k from me in crypto can I go to the police and have them all arrested. Hell no! Nobody cares because I don't have a billions of dollars to pay off the politicians to protect my interests.

This is complete insanity.

I wonder if the founder of FTX will even get 5 years. Probably not.

But omg going against bet365 and their "terms of use" is a very serious offense.

I liked in the article how the detective mentioned it was clearly against bet365's "term of use" annnnndddd why should anyone give a fuck? Because the casino pays ur salary?
